If you in your BIOS set "UMA Only" and in W7 reinstall the AMD driver in that situation it would hopefully find and install for the 6520G only and be furthermore content that you have no other. And better battery-life.The W7 behaviour is perhaps somewhat expected it came from a situation where it either saw/drove both cards or the 6650M specifically.


What I see is:- Linux mint logo appears in centre of screen with 5 white dots under it. The only problem is I have no clue what I am doing, so if you have any more suggestions or somewhere good to go looking let me know.By the way "radeon.dpm=0" made no difference - hung at first splash screen after the 5 dots turned green.I'm happy to try the "full VGA switcheroo setup" - I think I saw a reference to that on my travels so I'll hunt that down and let you know how it goes.*edit* - it looks like the first step is to boot with kernal parameter "radeon.modeset=1", which hangs, so may not be possible.After a while I'll make a decision - go to 17.3 or keep "UMA only" and make W7 work with that (I expect that some of the Lenovo or ATI utilities that pop up from time to time will whinge but I don't use them anyway).Re the 'hang', yes I did wonder if it had in fact booted but I just couldn't see it, and couldn't think of a way to confirm that apart from note that the HDD light is out. If I was seeing a black screen then maybe an external monitor might have shown up something but actually I don't think it has fully booted.OK, in the Dynamic situation you have an actual hang, not "just" non-functional video.
Giving that I am myself still on 17.3 I would also not advise against said revert on other grounds, but it seems you might for now be fine without your 6650M, which of course also works.The hybrid-graphics situation does seem to be a current trouble spot with respect to the AMD driver situation. I have conversely not found any indication anywhere that things work without "fglrx" - yet, hopefully the "radeon" driver will supposedly continue to adopt more advanced features for which "fglrx" used to be necessary for some time still.
